Florida Criminal Practice and Procedure
I’m too old to write a blog. Honestly, I don’t even like the word “blog”. I remember the first time I heard it, and I had to look up what it meant. It’s short for “web log”. Is it really that hard to say “web log”? For whatever reason, I have just resisted everything twenty-first century. I don’t have a facebook account (although my wife has told me that that will change soon). I’m not on twitter, or snapchat, or whatever the next thing is. I’m not even sure why I am so opposed to jumping into this millennium. Maybe it’s just my reluctance to acknowledge that I am getting older. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not completely ignorant of the wonders of the internet. Actually, I’d say I am fairly proficient in my ability to navigate the web, however, up to this point, I have been simply a passive user. Well, at fifty-three years old, I have decided to give up my battle against the twenty-first century, become a contributing member of the www community., and start participating. I have no idea if anyone will care about the things I post here, but I’ve read a lot of other people’s thoughts, and I’m pretty sure this won’t be the worst blog on the internet. You know what they say, “you don’t have to be faster than the bear”. So with all that in mind, I am ready to give this a try.
So to get started, perhaps a short personal history might help. I will start with the obvious ones first. I am an attorney, and a retired judge. I have been practicing law for nearly twenty-five years. Just under a year ago, I decided to retire from the bench, move south, get married, and start a new career. I am a liberal, and not afraid to say that. I was born in the sixties and raised by liberal parents. I have one sister, one brother, two kids (21 and 19), two step kids (19 and 15), and a black lab named Cooper.
I am passionate about the law. I believe in the constitution, and I have been proud to defend the rights that it provides. In looking at other blogs, it appears that I should probably stick to one subject, so I will try to do that, but I have to warn you, I might occasionally wander a little and get a little lost if there is something specifically troubling to me.
Ok, that’s about it for the introduction. I don’t want to bore you too much, with personal details, but, again, I thought it might be helpful to know a little about me to help put some of my thoughts in context. I hope I can use this platform to entertain and educate anyone who reads it. I hope that I don’t offend anyone, and I hope that my writings will simply cause some reflection and thought. Feel free to provide any feedback if you would like help me along on this project.
